Description:
This
community setting was originally established for and has been
devoted to learning and spiritual growth for over 35 years now.
Students as young as five to residents and seekers in their 80’s
have found it to be a special location. Tarbiyat is 17 miles
north of Las Vegas, New Mexico (map) in a rural yet
easily accessible area. Sixty acres of open space provide lots
of room for participants to meet outdoors, or to meditate
quietly during breaks. With space for small conferences,
meditation retreats, spiritual study groups, Yoga or Tai Chi
retreats, or even a place for your art, Tarbiyat can provide the
tranquil sense of connection you seek.
Auditorium
facilities: The
auditorium can accommodate up to about 80 people comfortably,
and seating and tables can be arranged in any manner desired, or
cleared to provide open floor space.
Kitchen/cafeteria.
It includes a commercial grade gas stove and ovens,
refrigerator/freezer space, and seating for up to 40 people. A
large outdoor gazebo provides additional seating.
Conference room.
Located immediately off the auditorium with conference table and
seating for 12, this can be used for meetings or as a
preparation space.
Workspaces. A large
open lower level is available near the auditorium and can be
arranged to serve as work areas for small or large groups,
facilitate projects or support in-depth work by participants.

Availability:
Tarbiyat is
available all year round, and can be leased for extended periods
as well as long weekend retreats or conferences.
Background:
Tarbiyat Center was founded in the late 1960’s by the late
Reginald King, and in 1972 Tarbiyat School was established,
providing first grade through high school education for local
and boarding students. The name Tarbiyat was chosen for its
meaning of “Learning” or “Education.” During the 1970’s and
early 1980’s a dynamic and thriving community of teachers and
others which grew up around this school, and served as many as
80 students a year.
Environment:
At 7,000 feet elevation,
the weather at Tarbiyat is usually moderate in the summer and
fall, with pine trees and streams covering much of the area on
and around Tarbiyat. Evenings in the spring and fall can be
cool. Average summer temperatures range from highs in the
nineties to night-time lows in the sixties or fifties. Open
grass fields and neighboring small farms surround the area. To
the East of Las Vegas and Sapello are the open grasslands,
including lakes and the Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge. Due
to the rural location, cell phone service is not guaranteed at
Tarbiyat.
